POW*MIA Rodeo

Greetings Veterans and Fellow Patriots:

I know there has been quite a few emails recently, but I wanted to get the April General Membership meeting minutes out quickly. We covered a lot of information at the meeting and still need assistance with the Idaho Field of Heroes. We are looking for volunteers on Thursday, May 23rd to place the flags around the perimeter. We also have security shifts available the evening of Friday, May 24th starting at 8pm until Saturday morning May 25th at 8am. If you would like to help, please contact me so I can let Melissa know. We just want to make sure the Idaho Field of Heroes Memorial is secure and ready to be viewed over Memorial Day weekend. It is such an awesome display! I hope each of you get a chance to go visit the field and pay your respects. Thank you!

Reminder, this Saturday, April 27th is the date for our spring clean-up of POW/MIA Memorial Highway 26. Make sure you bring gloves. The trash bags, safety vests and water will be provided. We will meet at the corner of N740 (Moreland Road) and Highway 26 at noon. It doesn’t take much time to do this and we have a lot of fun playing roadside trash “Bingo” while laughing and enjoying working together. I have a wagon that I will bring so we can carry water and the trash bags along with us. We will start at the end of our 2 mile stretch and pick up the trash while we walk back to the parking area.

The POW*MIA Awareness Community Fundraiser is next month. The fundraiser will take place on May 11th. Our May General Membership meeting will be the Friday, May 10th; not our usual 3rd Friday of the month, so that we can set up our donated items. Donations will be accepted that evening too.

Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th is our 21st Annual Idaho Thunder Run. We will meet at 7:00am at Rest Lawn Cemetery to place American flags along the drive and then 8:30am start mustering at Century High School. This event is open to EVERYONE and is a rain or shine event. I am praying for a gorgeous day. Lunch will be available at the field for $10 and you will pay at the concessions trailer. Burgers, dogs, chips and drink are on the menu. We will be performing the Retire with Respect ceremony again this year at the field, so this will be a great spot to grab lunch before we head up to the Idaho State Veteran’s Home to mingle with our local Heroes on the Hill.

Speaking of the Idaho State Veterans Home, we donated $500 to them for a new sound system.  Charlie, their Events Director received our donation as Ms. Carrie Leavitt has retired. Her last day was Friday, April 19th.

July 27, 2024 will be our 24th Annual POW*MIA Awareness Rally & Motorcycle Rodeo at Power County Fairgrounds in American Falls. A1 Crane has confirmed they will have their crane out there to fly our huge POW*MIA flag that can be seen driving down the freeway. Our vendor registration button on the website is active and accepting the $100 vendor fee. Any vendors that would like to be part of the rally, please direct them to POW*MIA Awareness Rally webpage so they can sign up. We did vote to raise the gate entrance fee to $10 and the CMA has confirmed they will be there to help us with the gate again this year. We appreciate their support.

Please read the April General Membership Meeting Minutes, so we will be able to take a vote to accept or amend them. Keep an eye on the calendar and Facebook for all of our events.

Hope you can join us at our upcoming events and meetings!

Thank you,
